My heart is broken. Our beloved pet lovebird died in his daddies arms today. We held him, kissed him, gathered up his favorite things, placed him in a safe container & buried him under the front window where there is always light since he was afraid of the dark.
He was 17 years old & only in his cage when he was sleeping. Always affectionate, curious, & vocal. He would eat with us, bathe with us, cuddle with us...all day, every day. His personality was hilarious. As cliched as it sounds, he truly did think that he was human & not a bird. His wings were never clipped & he would fly around the house to find one of us when the fancy took him. He would sit on our shoulders & help us to cook (& always had to taste) or to do the dishes. If he was mad, he let you know. If he wasn't cuddling or eating with someone he you could always find him either sitting up in the kitchen light (sometimes quietly chattering to himself) or on the kitchen counter chewing (reading Wink) one of his papers.
Sometiems he would decide to hide & yell for someone to come & find him just for kicks. We would usually find him upside-down hanging from the back of the bathroom curtain. Often times during this game of hide-and-seek he would deliberately not yell for you when you were near him so that he wouldn't give himself away, but once you were out of the area he would start talking again.
He LOVED ramen noodles & would insist on having them. We had to keep extra ones in the fridge to heat up for him in the evenings.
He died less than an hour ago, so his absense really hasn't sunk in yet. It will definitely sink in this evening when he isn't calling for his noodles or for Mandy to put him to bed between 9:00 & 9:30, as he did every single night. Our hearts are simply broken & the house seems so empty & dead without him flying around & talking. It just hurts.
Sincerely,
Laurasia
