Hello everyone. Again, I don't think that I need to ask if any of you like Tolkien's works. Personally I am more of a visual person, so the movies are easier to connect with for me. However, the books are wonderful as well. I am very much looking forward to "The Hobbit" being made into a film, & can only hope for a "Silmarillion" based one as well. Anyways, what are you thoughts/feelings on Tolkien's works? Sincerely, Laurasia

I also loved seeing the books brought to the screen (they were done beautifully), however I LOVE to read. I first read the books (begining with The Hobbit) when I was 11. I have always been able to read a book and get so absorbed in it that sometimes I don't hear anyone calling me. That is because, for me, I visualize very well through books. Tolkien is a master at characterization, so the imagining isn't hard at all.

I'm like you Brandybuck, I get really absoarbed in the books and I picture the scenes really vividly in my mind. I liked the movies alright though, they were definitely exciting, although I kept getting distracted by the inconsistencies between the books and movies. I liked seeing the characters on screen though, Tolkien doesn't really describe people all that much except for hair color and height. I also like the Silmarillion and the Hobbit, and the Unfinished Tales. I think it would be great to see the Silmarillion in a movie especialy since everyone thinks it'sso boring - which I don't understand. But it would make a pretty exciting movie.

I agree with you in that..I would definitly want to see the Silmarillion brought to film! I especially would love to see the story of Luthein and Beren (I love Aragorn and Arwen, so can you blame me?). I also noticed the inconsistencies between the book and the movies, but I had to get past that somehow, because the movies were excellent. I would have loved to see the Hobbits kick some butt in the shire though..that would have ruled!

I also would have liked to see Tom Bombadil! But I completely understand why he was left out of the movies, since the whole Old Forest short cut was a bit superfluous to the main plot, even though it was wonderful. Maybe it is better that he be left out because I have such a perfect idea of what he is "supposed" to look like, and the Old Forest, and the house and Old Man Willow, and what the singing is suposed to sound like, and they haven't been messsed up by any movie images. Didn'tyou think it was funny how they worked in the tree trapping Merry&Pippin into a Fangorn scene in the extended version? It was out of place, and it probably wasn't a Willow, but I like that they thought to put it in anyway.

Hi guys. Well, as you know brandybuck, I'm more of a visual person so the movies kicked butt in my eyes. I'm simply glad that they didn't include everyone's "spontaneous breaking out into rhyme" from the books. I couldn't stand that at all. And, as I've mentioned on many other Tolien websites, I seem to be the only one in the world that hates Tom Bomadil. LOL! I would have absolutely hated for him to be in the films. Sincerely, Laurasia

Aelish, I love that scene! I remember the first time I saw it, I was telling Laurasia "Hey look, that was supposed to be in the first movie with the whole Tom Bombadil stuff, but they worked it in without him!" I was so happy, because I thought that was so funny in the book when the tree sucked them in. I also think that it was better without TB in the movies for a few reasons. First of all, There would not have been enough time allotted to give Tom Bombadil his due as a character brought to the screen. Second, the Barrow-down scene would have had to been added, and they did not have the time for that either. And thirdly, I do not think the jollyisness of Tom's character would have fit in the movies very well. He would have stood out like a sore thumb.

I do not think the jollyisness of Tom's character would have fit in the movies very well. He would have stood out like a sore thumb. You got that right! I think the movies left out a lot of the little, lighter quotes and happenings, so while the books are dark, they have somethings to break up the darkness every once in a while; the movies don't have that so much, so yeah it would have been really weird and out-of-the blue to have this jolly, nonsense-singing, rhyming forest-man in blue and yellow appearing in the movie! ~Aelish~
