Last author I'm gonna mention, 1 of the epic authors I love so much. Creator of the disc worlds.
I'm sure everyone's heard of his Hogfather movie, where death had to take over for Discworld's answer to santa, but as much as I love the movie, the books are somehow even better, and death is THE BEST character I've ever read. I love how he dosen't talk like anyone else, you wouldn't even have to introduce him to the story, you could just have some characters talking and do something like:
"Are we all here?", Asked the grand chanceler "Roll Call"
"here" said the dean
"here" said the gardener
"here" said the sarge
here
"ook" said the liberian
The Grand chaneler looked confused, "there are only 5 of us here right? count off!"
"one" Said the dean
"ook" said the liberian
"three" said the sarge
four
"five" said the gardener
"...yes well 5 of us, sounds about right" said the grand chanceler, feeling very confused and cold for some reason
In all the disc world books, he was the only character that apeared in almost every book and always had a sense of humor, the way he was described was just so awesome ly done by terry pratchet, such as being able to walk through walls with the reason of "the castle had only been here for a mere few 100 years, whereas death had always exsisted, making him so much more real than the castle walls"
It's hard to explain the sheer awesomeness of Death, aka Bill Doors, with just *checks* 58528 letters...58512 now...ya see, no chance with so few letters. so I'll just say, he's just cool. my fave line of the whole seris would be something like "everyone assumes that the speed of light is the fasted anything can go, they are infact wrong as the speed of dark is much faster. However fast light moves, dark is always there waiting for it
