Another author I've read and love is Darren Shan, he made two sets of stories. One he said was a true story, about how he became a vampire's assistant and his years as a half vampire. His other books were about Grubbs Graddy and his life fighting demons and a demon master called Lord Loss, his journey through life as he has to go through tragedies, lots of tragedies and fight to try and save himself and his friends from the demons over and over as well as other characters in the same world with their adventures. some of the books written from their point of view (like Bec was written from the point of view from a resurrected 500 year old girl reborn in the modern world, or Demon thief, written about a young boy called Kernel trying to track down his little brother through the demontia world, learning to use magic and using the skill he has that nobody else has, his power to see little blocks of light all the time, and being able to put them together like a jigsaw and open a portal to anywhere in minutes, whereas even the strongest of the strong wizards, a man half demon takes almost an hour.
The demontia books are good, very gory and sometimes slightly scary but the Saga Of Darren Shan is one of my faves. Every time you think you have it pegged, it does something that leaves you reeling and hooked. After I'd finished reading it, the ending caught me by so much surprise that I sat for like an hour with a dazed look, going back through the 12 book long story, just saying wow over and over, wandering from room to room in shock at such an epically clever ending.

I've never read anything by Darren Shan, but I have dealt with more than my fill of the ignorant "half-vampires" & such that his works have spawned on the internet.

What do you mean by half vampires? I'm sure he's by no means the first guy to ever use that term. There's Angel's Son Conner from the Buffy universe, rayne from blood rayne, ummmm and many many others. (ok so I suck at rembering)

I just seem to remember quite a bit of terms such as "day-walker' being thrown about by roleplayers that try to say they are the types of creatures/vampires from Shans' stories.
Perhaps I have the authors name wrong....It seems to me that it was usually Darren Shan books that they were speaking of as "references".

sounds more like they want to be like Blade, ya know, big black guy, mom turned into vampire, him given birth mid way through, awesome hair, awesomer sword, killed dracula? I'd say he's a much more famous day-walker. plus he's the only one to ever use that term. Nobody ever called anybody a day walker in darren shan's books.
And as far as character backgrounds go. Darren shan "day walkers" (if they must use that term) would be no match for a real vampire, posses very few abilities and realy, only be better than humans. and after many years as a half vampire, would go through the change, where their power would go from super charged to running on empty at random times, making them almost blinded by the sun, deafened by normal level voices and iratated by the feel of clothes. After which they would age a little, untill eventually after going through it enough times, they would be a full adult vampire. Also half vampires have teeth that can chomp through steel and fingersnails that can cut flesh and dig into brick walls. They can move faster than the human eye can see, but nowhere near as fast as a full vampire. and generally, if they are a darren shan half vampire, they have to be assistant to a full vampire and eventually taken to vampire moutain and brought before the princes to be decied if they are allowed to stay alive. a half vampire living alone is pretty dangerous and not generally allowed by the vampire community and would make them easy pickings for vampanze (darren shan's vampire's enemies. Vampires that broke away and renamed themselves and always kill when they drink, and due to huge consumtions of blood, have purpleish skin, dark red rings around their eyes and red eyes. or something like that.
So generally, being a Darren Shan "day-walker" or half-vampire, isn't a good deal.
oh and half vampire isn't like a sub-species of vampire, it just means a human as had vampire blood infused into them, but not enough to make them a full vampire. Practicly the same as making a ghoul. though once turned into a half vampire, they will eventually have to become a full vampire, either by going through the change a number of times, or by being unfused with more vampire blood.

Darren Shan's half-vampires =
Yep, that's what I'm talking about....the "half-vampires". Some of the roleplayers claiming to be just this referred to themselves as "daywalkers". LOL!

You sure they're not talking about Blade? He's the only guy ever called a "Daywalker" n as most people want their character to be gods (something even I did with my first Vampire story, using the Vampire masqurede Story telling game Stats sheet, to give him abilities, ranking way off the charts) then being a blade-like character stinks of overpowered. "all of the strengths, none of the weaknesses", effortlessly killing 100s, the equivilant of a school child who always wants to win without effort and throws a tantrum if you claim to of somehow managed to hit him with your pretend bullets.
ohhh and since I'm in the Darren Shan Topic....^^ MOOVIE!! seen the trailers for it? I'm seriously hoping it'll be awesome, and am even resisting the temptation to watch it online. Gonna go n watch it in the cinema (which I haven't done since Star wars: Episode 3 first came out). If they ruin Curique de Freak, I just may have to...to....to do nothing n sulk.

Oh no, many of them would rather whine about their apparent "difficulties" with being "daywalkers". It's really pathetic actually.
What is the name of the movie?
