Exercise B
Now we are going to consider some of your emotional reactions that you consider positive. In answering the questions below, use your own definition of what constitutes a positive emotional response. It can be one that you find especially enjoyable, uplifting, or pleasant in any way that you feel is noteworthy. As with the previous inventory, your comments regarding each item are very important, & it will be most helpful if they are included in each specific answer rather than all together at the end of the survey. The same type of remarks suggested for Exercise A would also be suitable to most of the items in this section. Once again, consider your childhood reactions as well as your current ones, & concentrate on your emotions rather than on your intellectual opinions.
1) The items listed in Exercise A are ones that are frequently mentioned when people are asked to name things that they respond to, either positively or negatively. No doubt there are other stimuli that evoke a strong positive emotional response in you. List here any such items that were not included in the preceding survey, along with any relative comments you'd like to make regarding each.
2) Are there any special sensory impressions or reactions that you intensely enjoy?
3) Do you get strong feelings of excitement or enjoyment from any particular group games or activities?
4) Is there any particular physical activity that you find especially exciting & stimulating - that is, upon thought or participation strong emotional enjoyment?
5) Is there any type of physical activity that you enjoy reading about? Name 1 or 2 books involving it.
6) Have any other books caused you a powerful positive emotional reaction? What were these books about?
7) Do motion pictures dealing with any particular physical activities appeal to you? Name 1 or more such movie.
8) Do you remember seeing any other motion pictures about which you had strong positive feelings? What were the subjects of these movies?
9) Have you had any outstanding positive emotional experiences in relation to music? Describe the type of music, the feelings brought forth, & the circumstances under which the response occurred.
10) Has any other stimulus or event in your life caused an exceptionally powerful positive emotional response in you?
