As Draco entered the common room through the portrait hole, he noticed that the room was empty. Hmmm..most unusual." Draco thought to himself. There was always someone in here lazing around Well, it worked to his advantage. He did not want to see any of his housemmates right now. He had a lot of homework to get done, and his father was riding him to raise his marks. he tried to tell his father that there was just some subjects that he had trouble with. The last time he said this, his father had gotten very angry. He had found out that Hermione Granger was at the top of their class. He had shouted at Draco that if he applied himself more, he could have much better marks than a Mudblood. He felt himself shake with anger and humiliation at the memory.
Even though he was still angry with his father, he was very much homesick. Malfoy Manor was his favorite place in the entire world. Only certain people were admitted into the Manor..and he usually approved of everyone. Here, he had to worry about homework, living up to the 'Malfoy reputation', and had to attend class with a bunch of Mudbloods. He wished that he was at home in his family's massive Library. That was one of the most guarded rooms in the entire Manor.
Draco sighed, and took out his Transfiguration homework.

Draco looked up from his Transfiguration homework when Professor Snape entered the common room. He realized that he was only here to post an announcement, however. "Hello Professor."
Once Snape had left the room, Draco stood up and walked over to the board to read the message. Oh, it was just about the next potion's class. He smiled..that was one class that he had no trouble with.

************
Draco angrily made his way back to the common room after his detention with Snape. He flopped down into the nearest armchair, and looked around. No one else was here. Good he thought.
Just then, he saw his eagle owl sitting on the chandelier. "What in Merlin's beard are you doing up there?" he asked. The owl flew down to him with a parchment clutched in its claws. Draco took it, and while stroking the owl, read what it said.
Draco read the note, crumpled it up, and threw it angrily to the floor. Noticing that his emotions upset his owl, he quickly gave him a treat. "I am sorry. I didn't mean to upset you." he crooned to it. Sometimes he felt as if his owl were his only friend.
Well, he would make the best of things. He decided to do his homework before he left for break the next morning. Then, he wouldn't have to worry about it while he was suffering at Crabbe's.
He pulled out a piece of parchment and began his homework. Once it was finished, he tied it to his owl's leg. "Take this to Professor Snape, and then come back here." Draco gave him a treat before he left.

******************
The next day, upon waking up and coming down to the common room, he saw his owl come back into the room with the results of his potions homework. He is so fast at grading papers Draco thought to himself. He really hoped that he had scored high on it..his father would no doubt want to see the results. Even though he was staying with the Crabbe's, he was certain that he would see his father sometime during the break.
He took the parchment, read the contents, and smiled. No, his father could not complain about this. Tucking the paper into his robes, he returned to his dorm to pack for break. He would be leaving very soon. He kicked Crabbe's bed to wake him up. "Get up..we have to leave soon."

Once Crabbe was finally ready to go, Draco hastened the lead out of the school. At the door, they had to "check out" like children with Filch and McGonagall. As their names were checked off the list, they were allowed to progress in groups to Hogsmeade.
