CORN DOLLY
On the Wheel of the Year, Lughnasadh is Imbolc's polar opposite. Traditionally, the grain or corn from the last harvest of Lughnasadh is saved to make corn dollies at Imbolc. The corn or grain represents the Goddess of Fertility in her maiden aspect.
You can make a corn dolly, or representation of the Goddess, with a simple dried ear of corn or chaff of wheat tied with a white ribbon. If you want to dress her up, wrap her in a piece of white lace or white fabric. You can also, instead of using a white ribbon, tie a braid around the corn or grain using 3 ribbons or cords of Imbolc's colors - white, black, pink or green.
If you want to make a representation of the Goddess, but live in an urban area where you can't get dried corn or wheat, go to a grocery store & buy kasha or oatmeal. Charge the grain in your magick circle, place it in a square of silk or white fabric, & tie it together with a white ribbon.
A more elaborate dolly can be made from corn husks that you bend & tie with string or ribbon to form a head, arms & long skirt.
Your corn dolly can be lain in a basket with white flowers or lace, or can be hung from doorways & eaves on your home as amulets of protection & fertility.
Enjoy!
Sincerely, Laurasia
