OMG Is that a newbie title or what ~laughs~
Please forgive me if this is a newbie question, I haven't noticed any questions along this line so far since I joined.
What I would like to know is when you are doing a past life meditation or just think your remembering something in general. How do you know that this is actually a past life memory and not a fantasy.
More and more lately I feel as though I have had a past life.... many in-fact. But there is one in particular that is giving me trouble. I think that in a past life I was accused of witchcraft, tortured and killed. Many more images come to my mind but it is a little to graphic for this site. My problem with this is that when I try to meditate or think about it I do not get any specific memories, or should I say anything I'm positive is a memory. Some of the things I "remember" I realize I am watching myself as opposed to seeing it through my own eyes. This could partially be because at the time, what I was going through was so pain full that I left my body, therefore the memories came from outside my body.
The last thing on earth I want to believe is that this past life is true, but I can't shake the feeling. Whenever I hear stories or watch documentaries about the witch burnings I get so consumed with rage and sadness that I can barely take it. I feel depressed, like there is no place for me in this world. I feel helpless, alone and frightened. Not to mention despising the male race for what they have done. I feel like I know what it feels like, like I know what that terror is like. Even now when I hear about any women being oppressed I become so unbelievable sad and furiously angry.
I'm not sure if this is simply political anger, or the fact that I am female therefore I feel the pain of my fellow sisters, or if it is because I really have experienced this first hand, or both. Either way I am politically enraged as a person, a woman and a feminist, but I honestly feel there is more.
Its just when I'm trying to remember I don't know if I am just letting my imagination get the better of me. Is there any way to know for sure what is a memory and what is my empathic imagination on overload.
Bye the way, thanks for putting in the spell check. I'm notorious for my bad spelling LOL

It is possible that this is a past life memory even though you are seeing yourself from the outside. Maybe it was your sister, or mother or female friend whom this happened to, and you were a witness? I have not done any formal past life meditations, though I do have some flickerings of memories and feelings which I think are from past lives. I think the inability to shake this feeling is what marks them as memries rather than just fantasies. Since I write and have quite an overactive imagination, I am always thinking up or writing some new story, some of which take place in the past; but these are things I can ignore if I chose, and I can control them; whereas the past life "memories" can't be shaken or manipulated (I suppose they could if you really tried, though). They tend to come up at odd times, and with an intense emotion or longing behind them. I hope you have luck in figuring this out. You will be strong if you can relive a terreble past life and learn from it, learn to conquer the fear or pain that it has.

sometimes the line between memory and fantasy can be quite decieving..I have had a few experiences in which I thought I had all these memories of this past life but it wasnt me....Sometimes when you are close to a person or have some sort of psychic link you may pick up alot of info about them and in present time you might retrieve that and mistake it as being you.... It can get confusing, but I think research is a great help...pendulum dowsing has proven to be indispensable in determining the validity of certain information.... Trust yourself and keep verifying and cross checking... sometimes when you exercise your imagination you may stumble into alot of truth about yourself.
Does this make sense? Also when you are having a memory involving alot of trauma there is a tendency (that Ive noticed at least ) to go out of body (disassociation from pain) ......

Thank you both for your responses. I have wondered if I am remembering something bad happening to someone else. To be honest I think it is both. My whole life I have had a fear that if I have a child something bad will happen to it. I've even had this terrible fear since I was a child. The pain of that is more than I can really handle talking about. I feel as though something bad has happened to me, loved ones and possibly a child. I do feel as though it is my own memory because I was day dreaming one day. And I firmly believe as many do that the imagination can open doorways to the truth about yourself and the universe. I was imagining the halls of Amenti and the place in between worlds. The place you go when you die before you are reincarnated again. When suddenly it started to feel very familiar like I had seen this place before. From what I can gather I died in such a state of fear that I could not go back. And by that I don't mean that I wasn't able to go back. I mean that I was to terrified to go back. The angels there or whoever they are allowed me to stay for longer than I was technically supposed to so I could heal. I believe I spent 400 years in the in between place before being reincarnated into this life. I remember finally feeling blissfully happy, and them telling me it was time to go back and that it was very important that I do so. I didn't want to but they said that this life would be a great one and I would not regret it for a moment. The whole thing felt so familiar. Is it even possible to remember the in between place??? Personally I know anything is possible. But I am also afraid that I am imagining it. The reason I think it is real is because in the past my "imagination" as been proven to be very accurate to things that have happened that I didn't know had actually happened. The list is endless. Please don't laugh. How exactly does pendulum dowsing work in regards to past life memories? I am very interested to find out.

I think it is possible to remember the in between place you speak of ...halls of amenti or halls of mandos if you will... when using the pendulum you are asking your subconscious/universal mind to answer questions....all the data of past lives is there...you just have to be very specific in your inquiries... I usually test each question 4 times to make sure the swinging of the pendulum in any given direction is not just chance...

I guess I've always been a bit hesitant to do that. I've tried pendulum dowsing before and I could always get the pendulum to swing which ever way I wanted. I wonder if I am getting the answer that I want or don't want depending on the situation. I suppose it requires a leap of faith and stepping back from the overly logical mind to trust the answer I'm getting.

concerning pendulum stuff:
I like to close my eyes after asking the question and letting go of my thoughts or at least not thinking about what the answer should be.. This I think would eliminate the possibility of you simply manipulating energy to move the pendulum instead of letting the subconscious do the answering...

Thank you Artanaro, I will give that a try.
I do have a crystal necklace at home that would be perfect for that.
One more question. Should I be holding the pendulum myself or tape it to a surface instead?

heres what I do: I put my elbow on a table and sit with feet on the floor.... I get into a meditative state ...I hold the string or chain of the pendulum with thumb and forefinger....relax , ask, and let go....test it with questions you already know the answer to , to build confidence. remember to ask it to indicate yes and no at the beginning of every session....it tends to be different sometimes... all this may give you the most accurate reading i think

Thank you Artanaro, I will give that a shot. Hopefully I can get some answers I believe. You've been very helpful.

I agree with artanaro on this one..I am still in the process of trying to remember my "in between" time in Valinor (which was a very significant event at the end of one of my past lives)..so far I have come up empty. There is a very thin line between fantasy and recollections..like artanaro I have "seen" past lives that were not past lives after all. Once I meditated further I came up empty..therefore it was a product of my emotions and imaginations..no more. The best way that I can describe looking into whether what you are feeling IS in fact a past life is this: When the memories are so poignant that they tend to make you physically ill, I believe they should be looked into and meditated on further. Also, if the same theme keeps reappearing in your dreams or meditations, you should consult some form of an oracle or a pendulum reading. Finally, trust your inner intuition and go from there..if you feel that you should explore the avenue further, then by all means research more into yourself for the answers. I hope that I have helped you in some way. Kirsty..if there is something that you think is too graphic for the boards, remember sweetie that you have friends with pm boxes that would not mind hearing what you have to say. That way not everyone will see it. Good luck with your introspectaion.

Another thing about the pendulum stuff: Practice makes perfect....I may have stated this before but I think if you feel doubt that lingers practice on questions you already have answers to (of a neutral nature preferably such as Am I male ? Am I female ? etc.)
good luck Namarie Artanaro

Hi Kirsty.
As everyone has stated before me, you will have a nagging feeling that what you are thinking ("these are real memories") is accurate & often very strong emotions will accompany it. Also the replaying of the same situation is a good indication.
As to possible reasons for your seeing it "through another's eyes". You may very well be seeing what happened to someone that you loved during your past-life. This may also simply be the easiest way for you to remember your own past experiences, by "detatching yourself" from that part of yourself that suffered so much. It's not as uncommon as it sounds. If you practice enough you may be able to change what senses you are experiencing the memory with actually. Try focusing on what you are hearing, smelling, tasting, etc. rather than simply what you're feeling emotionally. Just remember that not everyone is able to experience past-life memories with all of their senses. Many, in fact, can only experience with 1 or 2 senses.
Good luck in your search sweety, & just remember that you can reach me in a few ways if you ever want/need to. ~hugs~
Sincerely, Laurasia

I think you might be right on this one. These are feelings I've had for a very long time. Some of the feelings I've had since I was a baby. Today at work I was doing more research on the witch burning times. (I should never do this kind of research at work) There were no accurate records because many of these women were killed in local villages where they didn't keep records. Some historians estimate that it was 30,000 - 100,000 people killed and others estimate between 7 million - 11 million. (75% of them were women) They call it the woman's Holocaust. They have agreed 9 million is a good estimate. From the feelings and memories I get I feel very strongly that the number was far higher than 100,000 people. I would say its up in the 9 million mark. I was reading about all of the different execution styles and when I was reading it my hands started shaking and my heart started pounding. I felt sick to my stomach. Images just started flooding to my mind. This happens whenever I hear about the witch burnings. I think that this may be a past life issue. Why the he** couldn't I have had a really really fun past life like a famous archaeologist or something LOL. I'm very hesitant to explore this further, especially because I am on my own. But when I do I'm sure that good will come from it. *crosses fingers that I don't end up in the loony bin* I will try remembering with my other senses as well to get more vivid details.

Hi Kirsty. Yes, it sounds as though you are dealing with a past-life here. Just remember that your past-life can't hurt you. I know what you mean about having "fun" past-lives. They are not always fun to work through, but the insights that you gain about yourself, your thinking processes, your mannerisms themselves is well worth the work. And don't worry, you won't end up in the looney bin for exploring your past. ~hugs~ Sincerely, Laurasia
